Third Annual Black Youth Conference to be Held Feb. 16

By Annesha Sharp

Since 1976, the month of February has been designated as Black History Month and is meant to celebrate and recognize the achievements of African Americans in shaping U.S. history. Mid-America Christian University will host its third annual Black Youth Conference on Friday, February 16th, 2024, emphasizing contributions and celebrating the vibrant culture of African descent. This tradition showcases the University’s commitment to acknowledging and uplifting African American contributions on a global scale.

The conference features notable African American leaders, including Pastor Roger E. Franklin, Sr., the first African American pastor to use Stone Chapel at Drury University. Pastor Franklin’s historic achievement and commitment to addressing community issues, especially gun violence, highlight his leadership. As the founder of the Action Center, he exemplifies dedication to positive change and empowerment nationwide.

Barbara L. Moore, Esq., another distinguished guest, is a legal trailblazer graduating as the first black female from Baylor University Law in 1985. With 40 years of legal experience, Moore has left an indelible mark on family, business, and criminal law. As an FDIC investigation and fraud defense attorney, she actively engages in inspiring youth through various outreach programs.

The Black Youth Conference at MACU serves as a powerful platform for inspiration, mentorship, and celebration of trailblazing individuals. Welcoming leaders like Pastor Franklin and Mrs. Moore, the conference aims to facilitate knowledge exchange and experiences that will have a lasting impact on students’ minds and hearts.
