Dr. Christie Smith is the Dean for the College of Adult and Graduate Studies. She came to MACU in 2019, starting as Curriculum Director, and then took on the role of Dean in 2023.
Christie earned her BBA from Sam Houston State University, her M.Ed. from the University of Houston, and her Ed.D. from Abilene Christian University. She began her higher education career in 1991 as an adjunct instructor for Houston’s Lone Star College System and eventually became a full-time professor in 2001. In 2008, she became the Online Course Development Director for the district. In 2012, she and her husband moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where she joined the online campus of the Tarrant County College District and remained there until 2016 when they moved to Oklahoma.
Christie is married to Michael, a retired Air Traffic Controller who now teaches future Air Traffic Controllers at the FAA Academy. They live in Edmond and have two adult children, a son-in-law, two grandchildren, and two dogs. When they are not working, Christie and Michael spend time with family, play pickleball, attend community theater productions, binge watch television shows, and teach two-year-olds at their church.
