Dr. C. Max Simmons

Associate Professor of Physics

Dr. C. Max Simmons is an Associate Professor of Physics who joined Mid-America Christian University in 2025. Before his current role, he served as a Professor of Physics and Astronomy, Department Chair of Physical Sciences, and Dean of Science, Engineering, and Mathematics at other institutions.

Dr. Simmons holds a bachelor’s degree in Astrophysics, a master’s degree in Physics, and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, all from the University of Oklahoma. These academic achievements reflect his passion for exploring God’s universe and his dedication to understanding how individuals transform one another through teaching and learning.

His research interests span both astrophysics and educational psychology, focusing on the transition between the ejected layers of a star during a supernova and the formation of a supernova remnant, as well as the effects of stereotype threat on learning outcomes among marginalized groups in academic disciplines.

In addition to his academic contributions, Dr. Simmons has served on various local and state boards and focus groups dedicated to advancing STEM education and supporting student success in mathematics, engineering, and science. He has authored and co-authored several grants funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Department of Energy (DOE), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Simmons has been an active member of his community, serving on the advisory board of the Earlywine YMCA and as an elder and board member at his church.
