MACU Unveils New Mascot Logo

Back-to-school event welcomes largest class in history and fresh Evangels look

Mid-America Christian University (MACU) recently unveiled its new Evangels mascot logo during a back-to-school event celebrating the largest on-campus enrollment in the university’s history.

The updated logo, which reflects both the university’s heritage and its vision for the future, comes at a time of record-breaking enrollment.

“The new Evangels logo is not only a visual update, but a renewed affirmation of our identity and unwavering commitment to our mission,” said Greenwald. “It captures the essence of who we are and where we’re headed.”

MACU chose the Evangel as its mascot more than 25 years ago to represent the university’s mission and identity. The term Evangel refers to someone who brings the good news or gospel, aligning with MACU’s commitment to spreading the message of Christ. MACU has since modernized the visual depiction from that of a traditional crusader to a more contemporary majestic bird.

The new mascot design features a bird with soaring wings and a blazing torch, representing the call to spread the light of Christ far and wide. The torch’s three rings symbolize MACU’s dedication to developing the head, heart and hands through academics, spiritual growth and service. The talons and feathers pay tribute to the guiding principles and the saints on whose shoulders the university stands.

“Our mission has always been to shine Christ’s light into the darkness,” said Greenwald. “With this year’s historic enrollment, we’re not just growing in numbers, but also in our capacity to make a positive impact on the world.”

More than 500 students are expected to attend classes on campus, and overall enrollment is up 11%. Incoming students for Education, Biology/Pre-Nursing and Masters of Counseling programs are also slated to exceed previous years.
