Dr. Gayle Fischer

Associate Professor: School of Teacher Education

After completing a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at the University of Georgia, I taught elementary school for several years in the Atlanta area. I then moved to Houston, Texas, to be closer to my brother and sister. While in Houston, I first taught in a private school for students with emotional and behavioral disorders. However, with the passing of Public Law 94-142, which required public schools to provide educational programs for all children with disabilities, the private school where I worked closed. I returned to public education in the Houston Independent School District until I met my husband, who was from Oklahoma.

In Oklahoma, I taught elementary and special education in both the Mid-Del and Norman Public School Districts. I also resumed my education at the University of Oklahoma, where I completed a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Psychology. While teaching in the Norman Public School District, I also adjuncted for ten years in the Education Department at the University of Oklahoma.

Upon retiring from public education, I was hired at St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee, Oklahoma, as their Director of Education. I continued in this position until St. Gregory’s closed in December of 2017. In 2019 I joined the education faculty at Mid America Christian University, first as an adjunct and then as a full-time faculty in both the College of Arts and Sciences and the College for Adult and Graduate Studies. Currently, I am the Director of the Curriculum and Instruction Program in the College for Adult and Graduate Studies.
